20 minutes after arriving abroad ... JAMAICAN WIFE FLEES HUSBAND
A man who claimed to have spent over £5,000 (J$690,000) to bring his Jamaican bride to Scotland was left heartbroken after the woman he married earlier this year dumped him some 20 minutes after she arrived there.

According to a report in the Daily Mail newspaper in the United Kingdom (UK), within 20 minutes of arriving through his front door, the woman flagged down a car and caught a train. It is alleged that she also ran up a £500 (J$69,000) bill on his mobile phone.

In a recent interview, the Scotland national Johnny Gannon, 33, said he believed that his wife fled to Bristol to meet a Jamaican boyfriend with whom she had organised the scheme.

"My relationship with her wasn't something I'd done by mail order. I've known her for two years and it seemed very much like the real thing to me. She has used me and I feel humiliated. I had a vision of happiness laid out. I feel like a bit of a fool," he said.

Gannon explained that during a vacation in Jamaica some two years ago he met the 24-year-old beauty, on a blind date set up by a friend. He said that despite their age gap he fell in love with her after their first meeting in a romantic bar in the resort area of Treasure Beach.

sting operation

"She was intelligent and I myself thought she had the potential to be a great life partner. Of course, I was pinching myself over how lucky I'd been to end up with such a beautiful young woman. But the relationship was getting better over time so I wasn't suspecting any kind of sting operation," he reasoned.

He explained that at one point he heard from a friend that she had a boyfriend in the UK but when challenged, she said it was in the past.

Gannon said that since meeting the woman he has been back and forth. The ceremony he says was organised on one of his trips to the island after she had brought up the subject of marriage.

He said that after the wedding he immediately began looking about a visa for her. During that process he claimed to have sent £700 (J$96,600) for paperwork in Jamaica and even more money when she told him it had been stolen.

THE STAR understands that after receiving the visa, the couple flew to Edinburgh to start their new life together but when they got there Chambers allegedly told her husband that she didn't want to be with him.

In the meantime, THE STAR understands that the woman has been reported to the police and Gannon is now planning to contact the UK Border Agency. He is also worried about breaking the news to his mother.
