COP HELD FOR THEFT AT STATION

RASBERT TURNER AND SHELDON WILLIAMS, STAR Writers

Up to late last night, the St Catherine South police were still holding two of their colleagues in custody for various criminal acts said to have been committed in the division last week.

THE STAR learnt that a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF), said to be involved in the removal of items from a motor vehicle at the Waterford Police Station, remains in custody on a suspected case of larceny.

Meanwhile, a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) attached to the Portmore Police Station is being held on suspicion of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

Reports are that he was said to have solicited a sum of money from a motorist whose vehicle was seized for a traffic violation.

It is been alleged that after monies were paid over by the motorist, a subsequent report was made, statements collected and the policeman was taken into custody.

A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for its ruling.

At the same time, senior investigators said indiscipline will not be tolerated in the division.

Head of the division, Senior Superintendent Collin Pinnock, confirmed that he was familiar with the latter incident and emphasised that it is being dealt with by the Anti-Corruption Branch.

However, he said he was not aware of the former. Further checks by THE STAR revealed that neither men have yet been charged.
