Man in custody on suspicion of larceny

A Portmore man is now in police custody on suspicion of larceny and malicious destruction of property after he allegedly grabbed a chain from a man's neck in Spanish Town on Thursday.

The man, whose name has been withheld by the police pending further investigations, carried out the act about 10:30 a.m. while the 60-year-old victim was on his way to the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.

The visibly shaken victim told THE STAR, "mi couldn't believe seh di bwoy dat barefaced. Him tek the bus wid mi near HEART a Portmore and mi come off on the road. Mi only see when him run up to mi and seh, "Gimme dis", and pop off mi chain and rip up mi shirt. But him never get far," he said.

The police confirmed that the accused was seen running near the library in Spanish Town, and was accosted and the stolen jewellery found in his possession.

Further reports are that the investigations will be conducted to see if other persons have fallen victim to this sort of activity carried out by the accused.
