Jackson's golden mission

Shericka Jackson

LILLE, France:

World youth 200m leader Shericka Jackson is determined to carve her name alongside Anneisha McLaughlin's, as a 200m gold medalist at the IAAF World Youth Championships level, targeting the top spot in the half-lap event here in Lille, France.

Jackson, whose personal best 23.32 seconds is the fastest time recorded by a 16- or 17-year-old in the world this year, is however, not stopping there, as she also has a great desire to replace Simone Facey as the national junior record holder, with the current mark of 22.71 clearly in her cross hairs.

Everyone here seems to believe she is in prime form to lower the record in the finals, which she is expected to qualify for after today's semi-final round.

Two members of Jamaica's three-member coaching panel, head coach Leacroft Bolt and Michael McIntosh reported to Star Sports that the Vere Technical sensation is in remarkable shape and looks ripe to run extremely fast in the French city.

Jackson herself has no doubts.

"To tell you the truth, I think I can go as low as 22 seconds by the time the final comes around," said Jackson, after comfortably winning her heat yesterday, in 24.08 seconds.

"Right now I feel great, I am in very good form, and I'm feeling very confident about my chances in this 200m, but of course, I'm waiting until the final before I go for that time fully."
