Man pleads guilty to simple larceny

A man charged with simple larceny after he stole a sink valued at $5,000 from Prendy's on the Beach pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The accused, Roy Stewart, of no fixed address, told the court that he stole the sink because he is a drug addict. He also said that he wanted to buy some food for his mother.

Allegations are that on Monday, July 4, about 1:35 p.m., a staff meeting was being conducted at the restaurant located at 7 South Avenue, Kingston 10, when a loud noise was heard coming from the front of the building. Checks were made and the accused was seen taking the sink from the bar.

Subsequently, staff members gave chase but the accused allegedly swung a cutlass and made a hasty retreat across the road to the 7th Avenue Plaza. Staff members managed to corner him and the police were alerted.
