Court hears claim that ... 'SOLJIE' ATTACKS WIFE?

A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier accused of assaulting his wife did not enter a plea and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 when he appeared in court yesterday.

The accused is to return to court on August 18 when the matter will be mentioned. He is also charged with breaching a protection order that was issued in the Family Court on March 30.

As a part of his bail condition, he is to reside at Up Park Camp and not to interfere with the complainant. He is also to surrender his travel documents to the police.

separated

Allegations are that on June 19 about 11:45 p.m., the complainant was in her room lying down when her husband, who she is separated from since January last year, entered and dragged her down on the bed.

This reportedly led the complainant to order him to let her go. It is alleged that he then grabbed her cellphone and made his way out of the room.

It is further alleged that after the complainant asked the accused to return the phone several times, he threw it outside into the front yard and pushed her in the face.

A struggle ensued during which the accused allegedly punched the complainant on her mouth, causing bleeding and swelling.

The police were summoned and a report made.
