Green heads CAC Championships team |

FORMER Kingston College 400m runner Leford Green, who impressed at the recent JAAA/ Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships, will head a 38-strong team of 20 males and 18 females to the senior Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Championships from July 15-17 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Green won the 400 metres hurdles in 49.19 seconds and was a second-place finisher in the 400m (45.46) at the championships. Green will return to the same venue where he silenced the large home crowd at last year's Central America and Caribbean Games to upstage homeboy Javier Culson in the 400m hurdles final when he won the event in 48.47. Green will be joined by four other male athletes who were also victorious at the National Championships, in Riker Hylton, Tarik Batchelor, Leighton Spencer and Jabari Ennis. the surprise winners Hylton who just completed his junior year at Louisiana State University (LSU) was one of the surprise winners at the trials winning the men's 400m in 45.30 and will be hoping to attain the World Championships 'A' standard of 45.25 seconds at the meet. Batchelor, formerly of Kingston College and now at the University of Arkansas, was the winner of the long jump with a wind-aided 8.17 metres while Spencer was a winner in the men's 5,000m. World Championships representative Korene Hinds will be the only female winner at the trials to make the trip. Hinds, who raced to an impressive World Championships 'A' qualifying standard of 9:41.67 to win the women's 3,000m steeplechase, will compete in the event in Puerto Rico. The experienced Vonette Dixon and 2009 World Championships representatives Simone Facey and Shereefa Lloyd are other high-profile athletes who will make the trip.
