NEWTON, Singapore:

Key players in the Sunshine Girls netball squad will be rested for the remaining group games following Jamaica's easy 74-23 victory over Botswana at the Mission of Foods World Netball Championships in Singapore yesterday.

Coach Oberon Pitterson said the team management is aiming to give less work to a number of senior players as they look towards the quarter-finals and semi-finals which begin on Friday.

Yesterday the Jamaicans recorded their most impressive performance of the championships to register win number two and coach Pitterson was very satisfied.

"We wanted to put everyone on court to see different combinations and all the combinations that we put out really worked well," Pitterson said.

"I am pretty happy with the performance ... it gives other players some well needed rest time," said Pitterson.

overwhelmed their rivals

The Sunshine Girls started the game confidently and completely overwhelmed their rivals while racing to a 37-6 lead at half-time and 57-16 at the end of the third period.

"We were aggressive in the defensive area for the most part and that is a good sign for us," Pitterson said. "I think we really did a good job of taking care of the ball and I am satisfied with that," she added.

Continuing, Pitterson said: "I thought they adapted well today, Kimone (Tulloch) was a little up and down in the beginning, but she sorted out herself as the game went on. Jodiann Ffrench-Kentish also got her first run and she did well too," Pitterson said.

The Jamaicans, unlike the first game, were a lot more fluent in mid-court and they moved the ball very swiftly from one end of the court to the other with a lot more determination and accuracy as the game went on.

Goal shooter Jhaneile Fowler who went on to replace fellow shooter Romelda Aiken at half time, topscored for Jamaica with 32 goals from 35 attempts.

Aiken also had a good shooting day, when she netted 29 goals from 32 tries. Goal attack, Ann-Kay Griffiths, shot a perfect 12 from 12 while Ffrench-Kentish got one goal from two attempts.
