Zebilum's music generates great buzz in the streets |

Khary Ato Zebilum Tucker, otherwise known as Zebilum, comes from a musically talented family which hails from the inner city area of Trench Town, Kingston. Now, he is making a name for himself with his breakout single, Nah Stop Try, which peaked at No.12 on the Jamaica Music Countdown charts late last year. Zebilum's follow-up single, Ghetto Yutes, is also generating great buzz in the streets. "Both songs are doing well, Elise Kelly and Ron Muschette from IRIE, and Richie B from HOT 102 are still playing Nah Stop Try, while Gary G and Big A are playing Ghetto Yutes, so it ah gwaan wid a ting," he said in a release. He has dedicated his time to performing at a series of government-sponsored peer counselling shows at inner city schools. He performed at a recent concert at the Tivoli Gardens High School where he earned a nice ovation for the Ghetto Yutes single. positive side "It was a nice interaction with the youths of the area and I made sure to stress the positive side of life because we have to remind young people that they are the choices that they make," Zebilum said. The first peer counselling session was a success, however, the second peer counselling concert was cancelled last weekend, July 2, because thieves broke into the Denham Town centre and stole several computers the day before the concert. Zebilum grew up in Independence City, St Catherine. He explained that Zebilum is the name of an African tribe from Ethiopia. From a tender age music was in his surroundings. He was always willing to perform at small functions put on by family and friends. His mother and father were members of the twelve Tribes of Israel. During his time at Camperdown High School he captained the Colts Under-16 and was a member of the Manning Cup football team. Upon leaving school, he formed Street People Entertainment Inc. and recorded his first single, Nah Build No Enemy in 2002, before scoring a hit with Nah Stop Try on the Formula One Production label. |
