Popular festival singer on ganja charges

Seven-time Jamaica Festival Song Competition winner Eric Donaldson is set to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on ganja charges.

Donaldson, who resides in Kent Village, St Catherine, was held near the Spanish Town Courthouse smoking a cigar.

He was accosted by members of the St Catherine North Street Crime Unit.

When the cigar was taken from him, it was found to contained vegetable matter resembling ganja.

He was arrested and charged with smoking ganja.

Donaldson was granted $30,000 bail at the Spanish Town Police Station, to appear in the Spanish Town RM Court on July 5.

The prolific songwriter-singer has been a household name in the festival circles.

He has such winning songs as Cherry Oh Baby and Land Of My Birth, among others.
