BARBARA GAYLE, Staff Reporter Police Inspector Marlon Taylor, charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and larceny, was granted $850,000 bail yesterday. Taylor, from May Pen police, returns to the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court on November 9. Defence lawyer Peter Champagnie made the bail application before Resident Magistrate Stephanie Orr. Taylor was charged yesterday following a director of public prosecutions ruling. cocaine. Allegations are that on September 3, 2008, Taylor received information that two persons were travelling in a motor car from Manchester to Clarendon with cocaine. Taylor allegedly instructed two constables to intercept the vehicles. When the car was stopped a kilogram of cocaine was found in a handbag. It is further alleged that the constables were instructed by Taylor to allow the motorist to go free but the cocaine was to be taken to a certain location. The crown is alleging that the constables obeyed the instructions and the cocaine was never brought to the May Pen Police Station. A woman who was allegedly travelling in the motor car made a report to the police and following investigations Taylor was arrested and charged. The cocaine had a street value of $600,000 at the time of the incident and Taylor is charged with larceny in relation to the cocaine.. Champagnie in making the bail application said Taylor was aware of the allegations and investigations since 2008 and had always made himself available to the authorities. Champagnie said that Taylor, who had been in the force since 1978, had denied having any conversation with the constables and argued that so far the constables' story was never corroborated. |
