Olivea Hayles, Star Writer
The launch of the Ity and Fancy Cat show's fourth season proved to be a tempting appetiser for the premiere of the popular comedy show. Held on Wednesday night at the Fiction Lounge, Marketplace, the venue was more than suitable for the intimate occasion, as the room was dimly lit and the ambience was superb. Owen 'Blakka' Ellis opened by welcoming everyone on behalf of Ellis International. He was followed by the Digicel brand manager, Tshani Jaja, and representatives from some of the show's other sponsors like Restaurants of Jamaica, Supreme Ventures and Courts. The general manager of Television Jamaica Limited, Kay Osborne, was quite jovial as she congratulated Ity and Fancy Cat on their fourth season saying, "It's nice working with you and it's a pity you never knew you could have got a better deal." Olivia Grange, minister of youth, sports and culture, also gave her remarks saying, "I commend them for their versatility and dynamism." However, Grange was hopeful that she would not be spoofed again in the new season. Dr Carolyn Cooper thought otherwise, as she declared, "I want to be spoofed because being spoofed by Ity and Fancy Cat mean seh mi reach," the UWI lecturer joked as she commented on the excellent calibre of the comedic duo. Cooper, who was the keynote speaker, also gave an interesting definition of laughter saying, "Laughter is an orgasm triggered by the intercourse of sense and nonsense." She then went on to describe Ity and Fancy Cat as murderers as "dem kill people wid laugh" and as doctors because laughter is a medicine. closing remarks After the animated speech by Dr Cooper, and the closing remarks, there were several performers, including Iceman, Rosa Rose and Dr Michael Abrahams. Members of the audience were later treated to a small preview of season four of the Ity and Fancy Cat show, which is set to premier on Sunday July 10, at 9:30 p.m., on TVJ. The duo then took the stage and performed a song on bleaching. They also treated the audience to some stand-up comedy. Ian 'Ity' Ellis told THE weekend STAR that there would also be a new puppetry feature, more special effects to enhance the product, and that the media production team, Broadvision and KBM Media, would be merged for the first time. Viewers can look out for a parody of the Manatt Enquiry, and while Ity did not guarantee that there would be a parody of Buju Banton's incarceration, he said that once they can find a way to pull humour out of the situation, then they will touch the issue. With waiters offering hors d'oeuvres and the bar opened to those who wanted to indulge, the launch catered to two critical aspects of Jamaica's culture, food and entertainment. |
