Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer The search is still on for one of two gunmen who traded bullets with police in Bamboo Ridge, St Catherine, yesterday. The other was shot and killed. Dead is Garnaine Gonzales, a 27-year-old unemployed resident of west Kingston. Reports said police operatives from the Transnational Crime Unit went to the rural St Catherine farming community in search of wanted men. The police said that Gonzales was wanted for a number of crimes in other parts of the island. When the team of policemen approached a house, the two men fired shots at them. They returned the fire and a shoot-out ensued, during which Gonzales was hit. His accomplice fled the scene. He was later found clutching a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with five rounds. The Bureau of Special Investigation has started a routine probe into the matter. |
