New name for Building - To reopen July 1 as Club Riddim

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

The Building nightclub in New Kingston will be officially reopening on July 1 under a new name, Club Riddim.

The Building closed its door a few weeks ago after business partners Vybz Kartel and Corey Todd parted ways. Now it will be reopened under a new name with new theme nights and more.

Spokesperson for Club Riddim Corey Todd told The WEEKEND STAR yesterday, "the name Club Riddim was chosen because the Riddim is one of the most important things in a great dancehall track. So with the club being the official club of dancehall it just makes a lot of sense. It also fits the theme of the club with all the dancehall legends being on the walls as murals."

The new club will be reopened with performances from the likes of Beenie Man, Jah Vinci and a host of other artistes. Females will pay $500 and $1,000 for men.

Todd said, "The new nights for the club will consist of 'Magnum Ladies Night Out' hosted by Boasy Boy Floyd every Tuesday where new music from all dancehall artistes will be featured and there will be a segment for new artistes to perform and show off their talents. Ladies will be free all night.

rebranding exercise

One notable change will be the introduction of 'Yaad Swag Thursdays' which will be hosted by Beenie Man. There will be more details about this night but it will be a real exciting night with crazy specials on rum," Todd said.

As part of its rebranding exercise, Club Riddim will host a 'Summer Live Concert' series for the next couple of weeks where there will be live performances from dancehall and reggae artistes. "Every week, there will be a different artistes with the likes of Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Assassin, Aidonia, Busy Signal, Jah Vinci, Blak Ryno, Sizzla, Lady Saw, Spice, Konshens and I-Octane," Todd said.

Prior to the club reopening, however, the Building nightclub will get its last hooray this Saturday with Inclusive Saturdays hosting the official farewell. The popular party series will be returning to that location with a twist. Todd said, "Inclusive Saturdays will take over New Kingston which means the same band whether purchased from Riddim or Quad can get you into both clubs so if you want to change the vibes from hardcore dancehall to reggae to house or hip hop, you can just walk over to Quad or vice versa. Rum mixes are still free all night for just $1,000 and females $500 before 1 a.m."

According to Todd, the vibe of the club will now change from what it was like under 'The Building' brand. He said, "It will be a place where new songs will buss first and new artistes will get a chance to shine like in the old days when the club was Asylum. I expect people to love the club, its one of the few places a small stage show can be kept and the only club set up nicely to give you the dancehall vibes needed for a great time."
