After more than three years of working with Beres Hammond's Harmony House label, singer Lenya Wilks has embarked on a solo career. Many may remember Wilks for her powerful voice which she showcased at the tender age of 17 on Digicel's Rising Stars competition, in 2007. A crowd favourite, Wilks came in fourth that year but soon found herself garnering the attention of veteran crooner Beres Hammond. The young singer started work with Hammond in October of 2007, touring the United States, Belize and England, alongside Hammond. experience of working In January of this year, however, Wilks, now 21, decided to step into the solo spotlight and is now signed to Zx5 Productions and manager Sam Berley. She told The STAR, "I made a decision that 2011 should be about me, to pursue a career for myself." For Wilks the experience of working with Hammond and Harmony House was a good one. "It was one of the best experiences I've had. But I just felt it was time for me to do me, it's the beginning of a new page. While I was there, I learnt a lot of things, like to be humble, to believe in whatever you have and I learnt a lot as it relates to performance from just watching Mr Hammond," she added. While at Harmony House, Wilks was working on her debut album titled Innocence Gone. According to the singer, however, the album was never completed and she will now be working on new material for her debut album. Thus far Wilks has released three new singles: I Hate Love, Stalker and Baby Come to Me. Wilks said, "So far things have been going good, I've been getting a lot of support from my fans and supporters. The stations have been playing my songs. I also have some duets with a couple of very popular male artistes to be released soon as well. I just really hope people see the talent." Wilks describes her style as being very eclectic not wanting to be caught in a box performing just reggae music. The singer sees herself even making a jazz album one day, as Wilks says, the sky is the limit. Efforts made by The STAR to contact Beres Hammond or a representative from his label were unsuccessful.
