Paternity Puzzle: The results are in ...

Crystal Harrison, Star Writer

It was a nervous-looking couple that walked into the offices of The Gleaner company on Friday for the results of the first DNA test in the Paternity Puzzle feature.

Stevenand Sophia* from St Catherine had appeared in the feature after there was some uncertainty about who was the father of their one-year-old twin boys.

The couple who has been in a relationship for six years, were going strong until Sophia made one huge mistake ... she cheated on Steven.

The couple says infidelity became an issue about two years ago. "I found out that she was seeing someone else, and when I asked her about it she denied it at first and then admitted that she was, in fact, seeing someone else and she is going to break it off with the guy," Steven had said when THE STAR interviewed him for the feature.

He further said that Sophia started coming home late, spent long hours on the phone and things were not the same. "We had a very good relationship at first and we even have a son before the twins were born," he said.

When they entered the competition, Sophia at that time, wasn't sure who was the father of the children, and Steven who previously had a child with her just wanted closure on the whole issue.

Well, on Friday they did get closure on the matter. Before the results of the test which was done recently was handed out they didn't speak much, sitting quietly in anticipation.

depressed

HE SAID: Honestly if the babies are not mine then I don't know what will happen because I am the type of person who is going to be depressed and me ago be in a shutdown mood. When I am depressed I sink myself in work, I don't eat and I don't really take calls.

SHE SAID: I want the babies to be his, but if they are not then it is up to him to do what he wants to do. If, on the other hand, they are his, then I would feel excited because he is already attached to them.

The envelope was opened and two copies of the results handed to both parties. A nervous Steven had his eyes all over the document and could not locate the conclusion of the DNA test; while it took Sophia less that a minute to read through the results and bow her head in disappointment.

The result declared that the alleged father Steven was excluded as the biological father of the child. "The probability of paternity is 0%," the report stated.

The result was explained to Steven before he hung his head in distress; while Sophia did a good job at holding back her tears.

HE SAID: Wow, I was hoping that even one of them would be mine because the kids know me. Right now it will not be good for nobody to stay around me because I need my space to think.

SHE SAID: As it pertains to a relationship, it is up to Steven to decide what he wants to do, but I don't really have anything to say.

HE SAID: I don't know. I will stick around and assist because we have another child together and I have accepted her first daughter as my own; but I don't know what will happen in terms of our relationship.

SHE SAID: About April or so, the next guy who I was involved with call me and said that he did a DNA test with the twins on the day that he did keep dem, and he is not the father.

HE SAID: I told her not to buy that argument because all now him nuh show her the official results, and he is a man who knows how to get fraudulent documents. He is just running from his responsibility.

So in the meantime, Sophia says that since she is now positive that Steven is not the father of the twin boys then it can only be one other person.
