Woman faces court for fictitious document

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

Claudette Bryan looked on in disbelief when she was remanded for presenting a fictitious document to the Registrar General's Department.

Bryan appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer to breaches of the Birth and Death Act.

When Bryan appeared in court, it was revealed that the father's name was to be added to the document of her daughter. A status report was requested for the father's name to be placed on the child's birth certificate for travelling purposes. The accused is said to have placed the photograph of her boyfriend as the child's biological father.

When the document was submitted to the Registrar General's Department an officer found something odd as the photograph of the biological father did not match the one presented. As a result, the police were informed and investigations by Detective Corporal Andre Smith led to Bryan's arrest.

The court was told that the document certifying the picture was signed by a Justice of the Peace which has since died.

A social inquiry report has been requested for her sentencing on July 19.
