Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
A man who dropped a parcel of crack cocaine and eluded the police will be tried on August 24. He is Donavon Muir, 40-year-old, unemployed of Independence City, Portmore, St Catherine. When the case was mentioned in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, the matter was put off until the trial date. The matter was postponed after defence attorney Patrick Peterkin told the court that he was recently retained and needed time to peruse the file. Allegations are that on July 25, members of the St Catherine Fugitive Apprehension team conducted a raid, investigator Jason McKoy said. It is alleged that Muir, who was known to the investigator, dropped a parcel, jumped a fence and escaped. The parcel was retrieved and found to contain white powdery substance resembling cocaine. Acting on information on December 3, the team revisited the location and Muir was held. He was subsequently charged with possession of cocaine. |
