Man accused of shooting cop gets bail extension

A Portmore resident who is charged with the shooting of a policeman two years ago had his bail extended when he appeared in the Gun Court yesterday.

He is Ramone Antoine Johnson, 32-year-old labourer of Newlands, Portmore, St Catherine.

When the case came up for mention Johnson's bail was extended until August 22.

The court heard that last year he was one of several men who shot and injured constable Alrick Clarke. He was held several months after and the complainant identified him as one of the men who shot him five times.

It was revealed that in June 2009 Clarke was sitting on his motor cycle when he was approached by five men including Johnson.

The men brandished handguns and shot him repeatedly .

Johnson was held in Newlands, Portmore, St Catherine, at the relative of an influential community member.

He was subsequently charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm.
