Policemen implicated in cigarette case

Detectives from the Flying Squad have intensified their probe in the case involving Saturday's seizure of several cartons of counterfeit cigarettes found in a police service vehicle.

Three policemen, who were travelling in the vehicles, have been detained in connection with the seizure.

Police said yesterday that 10 statements have so far been collected and citizens continue to call to assist with investigations. The officers involved in the incident are to be questioned this week and will be placed on an identification parade, the police said.

The police are again appealing to citizens who can assist with the investigation to call the Flying Squad at 922-2373, Operation Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop at 311 or Police Control Centre at 119.

Members of the Flying Squad arrested three policemen, one corporal and two constables, at the Norman Manley International Airport after the service vehicle was searched and several cartons of cigarettes valued at more than $350,000, were seized.
