The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is offering a $200,000 reward for the return of cables stolen from its warehouse in Kingston last week. Thieves broke into the JPS warehouse in the early hours of Friday morning and made off with 16,000 metres of insulated copper cables, as well as other items used on the power delivery network. In a release, the light and power company said the loss of the cables is of particular concern as they were intended for use in the upgrading work now being carried out on the company's transmission system in central Jamaica. The cables are used as part of JPS' protection, control and communications systems, the release said. "JPS is also offering a reward for information leading to an arrest. Persons with information on the stolen cables should call: 878-3676 or 878-3799, or the Customer Care Centre at 1-888-CALL JPS," the release added. |
