A not guilty verdict was made in the matter involving Jamaica-born international televangelist Reverend Paul Lewis yesterday in the Westmoreland Circuit Court. In 2009, Reverend Lewis was charged with one count of carnal abuse and two counts of indecent assault. The trial, which began on June 2, was held in camera and presided over by Justice Leighton Pusey. The Crown had alleged that Reverend Lewis had engaged in sexual activities with two teenage girls in a hotel room in Negril, Westmoreland, back in June 2009. Despite being freed on those charges yesterday, Reverend Lewis is to return to court on Wednesday to answer to the charge of perverting the course of justice. The matter is to be heard in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate's Court. The reverend was slapped with the charge after he allegedly asked a witness to pay money to the two teenage girls and to do everything to make the case go away. |
