Cynthia Garricks has been involved with early-childhood education as long as she can remember. Garricks started in the classroom after leaving Dinthill Technical High School. "I started to teach at Rosehall Basic School in 1994. After being there for two years, I realised formal training would help my development and improve my delivery to those I teach," she recalled. As a result, she went to St Joseph's Teachers' College and later the University of the West Indies. During this time, she managed to become principal at Guys Hill Basic School. "I found myself here at Guys Hill Basic School as principal, and have no regrets, as this is what I really love," Garricks said, adding her job is made easier with a good staff and active school board. a sense of satisfaction Garricks, who was born in Banbury, Linstead, St Catherine, said teaching smaller children has given her a great sense of satisfaction. "It is a great feeling each end of term when you are assessing and realise how well the children are performing," she said. She said her constant interaction with children has been a constant source of energy to her. During our visit, her interaction with students reflected an attitude of love and dedication to her chosen path. |
