Man accused of beating teen offered bail

A man who has been accused of beating a teenager with a piece of board was offered $70,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He is 24-year-old Matthew Lunan, unemployed, of a Kingston 12 address.

Lunan, who has been charged with wounding with intent is to return to court on June 30, when the matter will be mentioned as the medical certificate is outstanding.

Allegations are that in May, the complainant and another female had an argument which became physical.

It is alleged that the accused approached the complainant with a piece of board which had a nail attached and began hitting the complainant to the left side of the neck and head.

In the meantime, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey was lenient with Lunan, and offered him bail after he explained to the court that he only got into an altercation because he was trying to end the dispute between the two females.

"Your Honour mi never know seh it would a reach to dis because me and dem live inna di same yard and mi know her mada; but a part mi did a try part dem and she did a gwaan di most way, mi never know seh a hospital she would end up," he said.

The complainant's skull was reportedly fractured in the incident. She was rushed to hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.
