A Clarendon woman who recently recovered from a skin condition which she says prescribed medicine failed to remedy believes the condition may have been a result of obeah.

Michelle Blake* told THE WEEKEND STAR she is concerned for her safety because she claims that people with whom she has had disagreements may have turned to obeah.

She said she used to share a house with some people but moved out because they were rather controlling and wanted to constantly overshadow her.

"Dem tell people that is a lot of different things happen to my skin. Hairdresser chemicals, AIDS, cancer, skin allergies, disease from man and something in me that doctors can't get out," the woman explained to THE WEEKEND STAR.

Blake said while living with the people she was rather puny but since she moved out, she has experienced a physical transformation, making her more attractive which strengthened their jealousy and possible drove them to obeah her.

"When I was living with them ... I was thin, very thin that I could break into pieces. Since I left, I got fat, bussing up clothes with my buttocks sticking high in the air ... People shouting what a way you change up and look good now ... dem don't like that," Blake emphasised.

She said upon seeing this, she believes these people decided to act against her and may have cast a spell on her. "I tried to get back into school but everything started failing. I started having a lot of disappointment. Dem start predict what was going to happen to me and it did," she recalled. "My skin started to sore. I went to the doctor and it got worse. Everything has been going bad for me. I went to church and the pastor prayed for me and told me that everything that I have been going through, they are behind it."

Blake says she considered what her pastor told her and confronted them about it. But they have been hiding from her since.

THE WEEKEND STAR tried unsuccessfully to get a comment from the medical doctor who treated the woman but calls to his practice went unanswered.

The woman's mother, however, vouched for her daughter saying she witnessed that the medication provided by the doctor failed to help and she too is convinced that it is obeah. "When I saw her, she was in a bad condition ... she never look good at all, if you see her, you woulda sorry for her," the concerned mother remarked.

In the meantime, when THE WEEKEND STAR made contact with medical practitioner Dr Jephthah Ford and showed him pictures of the woman's skin condition, he stated, "That looks abnormal but not sinister. That is an eczema; however, the swollen eye looks totally unrelated to the skin condition. The swollen eye looks like she has an infection that could be as a result of an allergy or conjunctivitis."
