Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell is expected to be fully fit for Jamaica's National Trials after suffering an injury scare earlier this week.

Powell pulled up after 20 metres at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme, an IAAF World Challenge meet in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday, eventually clocking a pedestrian 36.13 seconds as he literally walked to the line. The event was won by Aziz Oihadi of Morocco in 10.27.

Initially it was feared that Powell had suffered a hamstring injury, which has hampered the sprinter in past seasons, including last year. However, after careful assessment, it seems the athlete only suffered a cramp in his right lower hamstring and should be fully fit for the June 23-26 trials. According to Powell's manager Paul Doyle, who initially predicted the injury to be a minor one, the athlete is not in pain.

"He feels no pain or tightness in the leg and should be all set for the trails," Doyle said via an email.

Competition for place in the men's 100m to the IAAF World Championships in Daegu is expected to be tight.
