Man explains assault, monkey diss

A St Catherine man who reportedly called a woman 'monkey' and then assaulted her, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Leebert Morris, 41-year-old labourer of Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned, he pleaded guilty with explanation.

"I got annoyed after she come a mi yard and tell mi wife dat mi go out wid a next woman on Valentine's Day," Morris said.

He told the court he was further provoked by the complainant who disrespected him. The complainant agreed she called the man a toilet after he called her a monkey.

"Him not only lick mi, your Honour, him call mi monkey too," the complainant said.

Morris told the court the complainant is a troublemaker who constantly meddles in his personal life.

Allegations are that on May 23, the accused used a machete to slap the complainant on the back after she came into his yard.

It was revealed that the complainant suffered injury as a result of the assault.

A report was made to the police and the accused was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Morris had his bail extended until August 16, when the accused will be sentenced. He was told to carry along $30,000 on the day.

He was not represented when he appeared in court.
