Cops search for gunman

The Spanish Town police are still searching for one of three gunmen who robbed and shot a taxi operator in Eltham Park yesterday. Two of the three men were later shot and injured when they were surprised by the police.

Police reports are that about 12:30 p.m. yesterday, three men boarded a Toyota motor car near Brunswick Avenue, Spanish Town.

When the car reached a section of Eltham Park, the men brandished guns and demanded his jewellery. A struggle developed with the driver and the gunmen, during which time he was shot in his neck by the gunmen.

The police who were in an unmarked service vehicle heard the explosion and responded. It was revealed that when the police got to the location, the men ran in separate directions. The police chased them and during a shoot-out, the men were shot and injured and a .38 revolver seized from the gunmen.

The other man escaped. Both the driver and his two attackers remain hospitalised.

Meanwhile, persons have expressed concern about the spike in the robbery of jewellery in recent times.
