A taxi operator was robbed of his motor vehicle and viciously beaten with a gun by six robbers on Sunday night. THE STAR understands that two female passengers are said to have assisted the six men in their plot. The incident reportedly occurred about 7:45 p.m. on Slipe Road, Kingston 5. Information reaching THE STAR is that the taxi operator's vehicle, which was stolen on the night of the incident, was found in the Jones Town, Kingston 12, area, scrapped and burnt. In the meantime, no one has been taken into custody in relation to the incident. According to police reports, two females chartered the taxi in Cross Roads, Kingston, and called for a stop on Slipe Road. It is alleged that when the females exited the vehicle, six men on foot, one armed with a handgun, ran up to the taxi operator's vehicle and managed to enter the vehicle. The females reportedly fled the scene. It is further reported that the men proceeded to rob the taxi operator of his wallet, $600 cash, a cellular phone valued at $35,000, among other valuables. THE STAR also understands that the taxi operator, who was in a tussle with the one of the men, managed to get control of the firearm; however, the culprits retrieved the weapon. It is reported that the gun was used to viciously beat the cabbie in his face and other sections of his body. THE STAR understands that the helpless cabbie, who was left on the sidewalk by the men, was later assisted to a nearby police station by passing motorists. He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was treated and released. The Kingston Western police are investigating. |
