I-Octane is now fuming and threatening a lawsuit after a song he recorded as a demo for Bounty Killer was released under his name. "I am upset," the artiste said. I-Octane, who is known for his cultural songs, said he recorded the demo, Woman Mi Seh, for producer Arthur Wale of Free Willy Music so it could be given to Bounty Killer. "So mi write the song, demo it and bring it go give Bounty 'roun Courtleigh. Mi write the song in the form of Bounty 'cause certain things don't fit. Mi keep mi thing as clean as possible. Mi write the song how Killer woulda sound and five months after the man put out the song under my name," he told THE STAR. In the demo, I-Octane, who on numerous occasions said he does not drink alcohol, says, "When mi a party and a drink Hennessy/ Tell har seh mi caan tame/ Man a gyalis from before mi start drive Range/ Ova da body ya woman a gwaan bad out a road/ bruk fight and fling stab out a road." Beef with producer The artiste said he got even more upset when he called the producer. "Mi call di man and him seh if mi waan vex, mi vex. Him seh look how long him ask mi fi voice fi him and mi a go round him," he said. When contacted by THE STAR to find out if there was any truth to I-Octane's claim, Arthur Wale did not say much. "Tell Ray (Ray Alexander, I-Octane's manager) fi call mi," he said, and hung up the phone promptly. Alexander, however, said the producer would be contacted by I-Octane's lawyer. Meanwhile, if the producer does not withdraw the song soon, I-Octane says he will sue. "Mi nuh like dat. Mi ago sue dem. Mi put a stop to the song. How him a try mash up my reputation and my character? If di man waan mi fi voice fi him, why him nuh ask mi fi voice a good song weh represent me? Yuh caan ramp wid mi career dem way deh," he said. I-Octane added that he does not want his fans to believe that he has changed. "I don't want my fans to feel like dem put so much confidence in I-Octane and mi just switch pon dem. I am a songwriter, mi can write fi every artiste. When yuh creative like that, you haffi write di song how di artiste ago sound," he told THE STAR. future endorsements Not only is he concerned about his fans, he believes a song of this nature can affect future endorsements from corporate entities. "It might affect any future endorsements. Dem sign you fi how dem see you at the time. Dem ago drift away from you 'cause dem nuh want dem brand associate with that. Dem sign Octane as a cultural artiste," said I-Octane, who is a Digicel brand ambassador. Meanwhile, he performed on Best of the Best in Miami on Sunday and will be heading to Turks and Caicos this weekend. He also has several shows lined up in the United States in coming weeks and a Canadian tour this summer. |
