Born-again christian takes on new name

A born again man who was arrested by police recently under an assumed name told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday that he gave himself a new name to represent his life as a born-again christian.

He explained to the court that he changed his name because the church which he now attends required him to take on another name as all old things must be passed away.

The defendant, Collin Coyle, otherwise known as Ishmael Colin, from a Water Road Kingston 2, address, is charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export ganja and was remanded in custody until June 20.

Interestingly, the defendant was not charged for identifying himself under an assumed name to the police when he was arrested.

The crown is alleging that at about 7:15 a.m. on May 24, a police raid was carried out at the premises of the defendant and an undetermined amount of compressed vegetable matter resembling ganja wrapped in brown tape was found.

The contraband was reportedly found among the defendant's belongings in his living room on the ground beside a mattress.

He was later arrested and charged.
