Man of unsound mind shot dead

Confusion as to who shot and killed a man of unsound mind caused residents of Shelter Rock, St Catherine, to block one of the main thoroughfare in the community yesterday in protest over the shooting.

The dead man has been identified as Morris "Bagga" Page of Shelter Rock, Spanish Town in St Catherine.

The police and the residents' version of the story differ.

"The police just shot and kill Bagga and move him body to the hospital weh him dead. Dem wicked, " a relative said.

Residents then staged a road block at the McNeil Park avenue which was cleared with the assistance of the police.

The police assured them an investigation will be conducted in the matter.

Reports from the Spanish Town police are that about 1 p.m., the deceased, who is said to be of an unsound mind, was shot and killed by unknown persons.

"An investigation will take place to ventilate the circumstances that the man was shot. For now that is what we can say," a senior investigator said.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched a probe into the matter.
