Crystal Harrison, Star Writer

The management of the Island Grill outlet in Spanish Town, St Catherine that is set to close today say the employees have all been offered transfers or have been given redundancy packages.

Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, Chief Executive Officer, Thalia Lyn said that the shop, which is located in the Sagicor Shopping Centre along Burke Road, is closing its doors because the landlord wanted the space.

In the meantime, Lyn stated that the employees have been well taken care of.

"We were upfront with the employees from the beginning and we offered all of them transfers to the Portmore outlet," she said.

She further said that; "the offer to the employees were either to relocate or to get a redundancy package and around three of them opted to stay with the company while the other 15 opted to take the redundancy package."

In an article carried in THE STAR yesterday a number of the employees had said that the closure would affect them badly and that they were not filtered into the other stores.

Several consumers who dined at the popular food establishment also told THE STAR that they are saddened by the pending closure of the outlet.
