Schoolgirl beaten unconscious - boy held in custody |
|||||
The St Catherine South police said a boy who is alleged to have knocked a schoolgirl unconscious late last week has been held. An investigator told THE STAR that the boy is likely to be charged with assault and unlawful wounding. Meanwhile, the female student of the Jonathan Grant High School in Spanish Town, St Catherine, remains hospitalised following the incident. THE STAR was told that the attack on the teenager started in a Toyota Hiace bus transporting students from Spanish Town to Portmore on Thursday. Her attacker is said to have blamed her for hitting his head against the bus while he was boarding the vehicle. There was an argument but the driver intervened and separated them. After the girl disembarked in Portmore, it is alleged that she was attacked with a piece of wood. The girl reportedly had three of her teeth knocked out and was rendered unconscious. So badly injured was the 16-year-old that relatives wondered if she would be well enough to do her upcoming examinations. The attack came a week after Education Minister Andrew Holness said violent students must get the full extent of the law for their actions. |
