Bolton wait on Gardner

ap - Ricardo Gardner

Jamaican international Ricardo Gardner has been offered a new one-year contract by English Premier League outfit Bolton Wanders.

Gardner, who has plied his trade at the club for the last 13 years, since joining the team soon after the 1998 World Cup, has suffered through an injury-plagued 2009.

A knee injury picked up midway the season saw Gardner miss the majority of Bolton's games and was loaned out for a brief spell to Preston North End after returning a few months ago.

After being recalled last month, Gardner played the last five games of the season for the North West outfit, who stated that the veteran midfielder was basically on trial as the club assessed his ability to contribute. Gardner has, however, now been given the thumbs up by Bolton Manager Owen Coyle.

"We've put an offer to Ricardo and we'll see what happens," Coyle told the Skysports website http://www.skysports.com.

"As a football club we have been held back because players have been injured, and that takes up finance that we could use.

"He had a difficult season with injury but he came back and showed he wanted to be part of what we're doing.

"It's up to him. If he wants to sign, brilliant. If not, we'll move on."

Although making a measly five appearances for Bolton this season, the 32-year-old has racked up over 400 appearances in all competitions for the club, since joining from local Premier League outfit Harbour View. The player, however, is yet to decide on his future as he is yet to take up the offer.
