Adrian Frater, News Editor Western Bureau: The red-hot Jericho Rangers continued to advertise themselves as the hottest team in the 2010-11 Captain's Bakery Hanover Major Football League, adding another win to their unbeaten second-round run by spanking the much-vaunted Sandy Bay FC 4-1 last weekend. By virtue of their latest win, which came on the heels of last week's big 6-0 win against Haddington FC, the relentless Jericho Rangers are now comfortable seated atop the standings in the eight-team competition and looking a safe bet to win the competition. In last weekend's game, the Jericho team conceded a fourth-minute goal when Ricardo Collins fired Sandy Bay into the lead. However, Jericho Rangers rebounded solidly, securing their emphatic win through goals from Brian Hill (3) and Darrel Jowery. With the game a mere four minutes old, Sandy Bay surprised the Jericho defence when Collins got away before the goal and left goalkeeper Uton Cockette stranded with his well-taken shot, making the score 1-0. However, like they had been doing since the start of the second round, once the Jericho machinery started flowing, they were simply unstoppable. Hill pulled them level in the 14th minute with a well-taken goal to make the score 1-1 and two minutes later, Jowery struck again, making the half-time score 2-1. In the second half, Hill struck his second goal of the game in the 48th minute, giving Jericho a 3-1 lead. He then returned to complete his hat-trick in the 53rd minute, leaving the Sandy Bay custodian helpless with a superb strike, which made the final score 4-1. |
