Sir Von won't lose
Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

SIR VON is a sure-fire banker in the 1000-metre straight 10th race on Monday's Labour Day meet, providing he doesn't miss a step at the gate as he did on May 7 finishing fourth behind MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE at 1300 metres.

Even though he was slowly away that afternoon, SIR VON showed tremendous speed to hit the front within a half furlong and battled MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE to the top of the lane.

In fact, SIR VON was still second a furlong out in a spirited display before weakening to fourth place inside the final half furlong.

The speedy four-year-old colt was simply too fast for DANCE SO SWEET when they met at 1000-metre straight on March 26 and should again outclass the three-year-old, a fellow American-bred.

SIR VON should cap a quick double for Nelson who should land the ninth with Vincent Edwards' PRIVATE CARD, who made a brave bid against COLD GROUND at 2000 metres on May 4.

Back at a similar distance, 1820 metres, PRIVATE CARD will be hard to beat if he reproduces his second-place effort behind COLD GROUND.

Anthony Nunes' PASADOBLE ran big when finishing second by a head to ZACK at 2000 metres on April 6, an event in which PRIVATE CARD was down the track.

However, PRIVATE CARD was probably leg weary, running his third race in a month, twenty-three and a half furlongs, after debuting on March 2.

Therefore, that run can be forgiven because, in his previous race, his second outing, PRIVATE CARD had PASADOBLE three and a half lengths behind in third place when finishing second to RIGHT MARKER, who subsequently lost the 2000-metre Jamaica Oaks in a driving finish to CARIDAD.

Using COLD GROUND as a marker, PRIVATE CARD has shown better improvement than PASADOBLE. Whereas PRIVATE CARD proved competitive in his second-place finish, PASADOBLE was beaten out of sight a week and a half earlier when COLD GROUND lost by a short head to AWESOME WILDCAT at 1800 metres.

Champion jockey Omar Walker is also aboard a two-timer, YES WE WILL in the second event at a mile and MEELO in the fourth at 1200 metres.

YES WE WILL has looked sharp at exercise although he hasn't raced since March 9, his second race among non-winners-of-three, a tough event won by GRANDI ELANI outfinishing PAT N GOLD.

Tomorrow, he's facing a weaker field and is a cinch with Walker aboard after impressing in controlled exercise gallops this week, an easy 1:21.3 for six furlongs last week Saturday and 37.4 for three on Wednesday.
