Missing containers in Gregory Park to be probed

The Portmore Citizen Advisory Council has weighed in on the contentious issue of the removal of containers in Gregory Park in the municipality.

Chairman, Winston Wright, made the concerns known at the monthly general meeting of the Portmore Municipal Council recently.

"There should be an investigation by Portmore residents into the whereabouts of the containers. They have a right to know, they are the ones affected," Wright told visitors, councillors and other representatives of the council.

Wright told the council that the probe needs to be done to find out if the work was put out for tender and who gave out the work. He said that while a number of councillors claimed the containers have yet to be accounted for, Portmore needs full accountability. "The Portmore residents need to know and they have a right," Wright repeated.

In February a number of persons who operated businesses along a section of Gregory Park were removed.

The Portmore Municipal Council claimed notices to quit were served on the persons and they failed to comply.

A series of complaints by the disgruntled former occupants has resulted in the Office of the Public Defender launching an investigation into the matter.
