Staying strong in the Christian faith

George Henry - Clifton Gayle

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Clifton Gayle of the Emanual Hope Restored Church of God at Chudleigh, Manchester, is proud to report that he has been living a born-again Christian life over the past 14 years. He currently serves as a Sunday school teacher at his church and is happy to serve God in that capacity.

He told THE STAR that he has always been a regular student at Sunday school classes and this helped him to make up his mind to serve the Lord. However, his walk really started following a vision he had.

"I got a vision that I was travelling on the side of a road and I found out that it was one road to east and the other to west. When I took one road I felt a heat like it was fire burning. So I got the chance to turn back on the other road," said Gayle.

After the vision

He said during the vision, he got on to the other road and noticed someone teaching a number of children. Gayle said this forced him to stop and listen; and it was from there that he started to walk with the Lord as a servant.

The Sunday school teacher added that since then, he has started to be more faithful to the Lord and became a regular student in class on Sundays.

"After the vision, I decided in my mind that I would get baptised and follow the Saviour because I know that in Him there is life and not only just life, but eternal life," said Gayle.

He added that his attendance at Sunday school as a student and now as a teacher and learning to read and study the word of God have helped him immensely as an individual. Gayle explained that it is a good thing for persons who are following and serving Christ to live on the word of God by reading and studying the Bible.

"We need to dissect the word and learn from there. We can be like Nehemiah, who said when he took the Book and read it, he made sense of it to help the people to understand it. So I find Sunday school as a place of learning for me. The Sunday school has helped me to be able to interpret the Bible and to listen to the Master's voice," said Gayle, who has been teaching Sunday school for over five years.

His love for assisting in the development of young minds has helped Gayle develop a love for teaching in Sunday school. He believes Satan has many children doing all manner of evil. He said this has forced him to want to do more for the children in the Sunday school.

Gayle said he was so impressed with how children attending his church have been trying to put into practice what is being taught during his lessons.

"I know that I am playing my part in helping to convert souls for the Lord. Jesus in talking with one of His disciples said, 'when thou art converted, strengthen the brethren'. With my conversion, I have strengthened the children; and I teach them to respect their parents and to be thankful," said Gayle.
