Man killed in Thompson Pen shooting

Gunshots rang out along the Thompson Pen main road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday, leaving one man dead and another injured.

Dead is Cleon Townsend, a 37-year-old vendor, from Thompson Pen.

"Lawd mi can't tek it no more dem kill mi son and mi two nephew dem. It better dem kill mi to," a relative said while been consoled by residents. She said that her son was not a troublemaker and therefore she does not know why anyone would harm him. "Mi cup full now and mi kno sey mi a go a St Mary fi dem. Mi affi get rid a dem, mi fed up," she said.

Reports from the St Catherine North police are that about 1:40 p.m., Townsend was seated at a stall near his gate. A black motor car drove up and two men alighted and fired shots hitting Townsend.

The men then re-entered the vehicle and fired shots again injuring a man at a nearby tyre shop. He was taken to the hospital and admitted in serious condition.

Townsend died while undergoing treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that more than 10 spent shells were found on the scene where Townsend was shot.
