Hotel managers charged with breaches of the Fishing Act

Two managers of a popular hotel in St Andrew who were found in possession of a large quantity of lobster at their establishment are to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after they were charged for breaches of the Fishing Industry Act.

They are Michelle Hussey, 55, from Waterloo Road, St Andrew, and Hylton Rogers, 51, of Queens Crescent in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

It is reported that on Tuesday, members from the Marine Division and officials from the fisheries divisions of the Ministry of Agriculture visited the hotel and removed 150 pounds of lobster from a cold storage area.

Hussey and Rogers were arrested and charged and are each out on $50,000 station bail.

As stipulated by the Fishing Industry Act, April 1 to June 30 is the official closed season for lobster.

Anyone found in possession of lobster during this period is in breach of the act.
