Taxi operator on fondling rap gets bail
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A taxi operator accused of fondling a 12-year-old girl was granted $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

In applying for bail, defence attorney Everton Dewar told Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green that his client is not a flight risk and has never been arrested.

Bail was granted on condition that the accused surrenders his travel documents and keeps away from the complainant.

Allegations are that in early April he picked up the complainant. She is said to have fallen asleep but was awoken by the fingers of the accused on her private parts.

He reportedly told her that he wants to be her lover for life. The child spurned his advances and subsequently related the incident to her mother.

A report was made and the man was arrested and charged with indecent assault. He returns to court on June 26.
