Scrap-metal dealer faces court |
|||||
Bail was extended for a scrap-metal dealer who appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on Monday, accused of accepting payment for goods which he did not deliver to a Canadian Company who contracted his services. Sukhvinder Singh Jaswal, 29, of a Kingston 6 address, charged with conditions of demanding and accepting payment and misleading or deceptive conduct, is to return to court on June 13. Allegations are that between September 21 and October 5 of last year the accused prepared and sent invoices to the complainant company, Fortune Metals. The invoices reportedly indicated that scrap metal were available to be exported, which attracted a cost of US $140,733.47. However, it was reported that the company, in return, perused the invoices,adjusted the prices and deposited an amount of US$125,188.04 as payment for 20 loaded containers of scrap metal. The accused accepted the payment but did not supply the goods requested. As a result, a report was made to the Fraud Squad. Following investigations, the accused was arrested on April 11 of this year. |
