Deejay's rape charge thrown out

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

An entertainer who was accused of raping a woman to whom he gave a ride had his case adjourned sine die yesterday when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.

He is Marlon 'Hit List' Lawrence of Rivoli, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the case was called before Resident Magistrate (RM) Simone Wolfe-Reece, his lawyer, Earl Hamilton, asked that the matter be dismissed. He told the court that for the more than two years the matter has been before the court, the complainant has failed to attend. RM Wolfe-Reece told the lawyer the court would adjourn the case.

Lawrence's appearance in court arose from a January 12, 2009 incident. He reportedly picked up the complainant at a bus stop along Molynes Road in St Andrew. The complainant was told that due to the traffic he would use the toll road. Upon reaching Portmore, St Catherine, he reportedly turned off on to Port Henderson Road. Lawrence is said to have paid for a room and pulled her inside a room where he raped her.

After the ordeal the complainant was reportedly locked inside the room. She was then dragged back to the entertainer's car and was let off at the Sagicor Shopping Centre in Spanish Town.

The woman then called her boyfriend and her mother and she was later accompanied to the Bridgeport Police Station.

An investigation by Detective Sergeant Desrine Watson-Burton (now deceased) resulted in charges of abduction and rape.
