Businessman pleads not guilty to larceny charge |

A businessman charged with larceny from a dwelling and con-spiracy after he was found in possession of a number of items stolen from the home of attorney-at-law Ethlyn Coke pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Evan Williams, 42, from a Central Road, Kingston 3, address. Williams is to return to court on May 24 for trial. Allegations are that on Thursday April 21 about 10 a.m., police from the Flying Squad carried out a raid at a premises on Central Avenue, Kingston 3. Further allegations are that the house occupied by the accused was searched. Glass crystals, paintings, jewellery and other items valued at over $2 million and suspected to have been stolen from the attorney's home, were found. Subsequently, the accused was arrested and charged. Williams told the police that his previous girlfriend, who was employed by the complainant and is now deceased, had taken the items to his home. The court heard that when cautioned Williams allegedly told the police, "Offica do mi a beg yuh a chance, me a go talk to you ... Bossie mi a go tell you di truth mi shouldn't tek di tings dem from Miss Coke house but she rich and me neva know she would miss dem." |
