Visually impaired carpenter remanded

A visually impaired carpenter accused of attempting to rob a man of his BlackBerry Storm denied the claims and was remanded when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

The accused, Sanjay 'Tallman' Sampson, 23, from a Paradise Street, Kingston 16, address is charged with assault with intent to rob and unlawful wounding.

He is to return to court on May 13 when the matter will be mentioned.

Allegations are that on April 28 about 5:45 p.m., the complainant was sitting on a car along Albert Street, Kingston, when a man armed with a knife approached him and demanded his cellphone.

Further allegations are that a fight developed and the suspect used a knife to stab the complainant to the right side of his face. Shortly after, a crowd gathered and the accused made his escape.

The court heard that on his way to the police station the complainant saw the accused sitting on a wall and pointed him out.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.
