Bryans Bay, Port Antonio

A male suspect is now in custody at the Port Antonio Station lock-up following an armed robbery at the Epping gas station at Bryans Bay last week.

The man was picked up Sunday night by detectives from the Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) in Port Antonio.

Police sources said that the suspect will undergomore questioning, as he was initially questioned after being picked up.

Last Tuesday, a man armed with a gun held up a cashier inside the office of the Epping service station and escaped with an undetermined sum of money.

Police sources revealed that, shortly after 10 p.m., a man was spotted by pump attendants and a security guard entering the main office at the service station with a towel wrapped over his face.

According to the police, explosions were heard shortly after, and pump attendants on the outside, along with the security guard, scampered for cover.

It is reported that the man fled the area with a gun in his hand, and escaped in the vicinity of the nearby informal settlement.

The police were called in, and further checks revealed that the night cashier, who was still shaking from the ordeal, was robbed of cash at gunpoint.

Later on in the night, it was discovered that a motorist, who entered the service station to buy gas, stumbled upon the gunman exiting the building. The motorist, who attempted to flee on foot, was grazed on the left side by a bullet from the hold-up man's gun.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
