Sadeke Brooks, Staff Reporter
With good music and high energy, there was a successful first staging of this year's Appleton May Daze series at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, St Andrew, on Friday night. Patrons were ushered into the party, which is being held under the theme 'The World Tour', by hostesses who were at the entrance of the venue. Patrons, some of whom had their May Daze passports, were transported to Amsterdam's Red Light District where women danced behind a red cloth all night. There were also other scantily clad females at the party, as they were encouraged to be bare as they dared. Very early into the party, ZJ Johnny Kool got the party going to songs like Aidonia's Uku, Vybz Kartel's Beyonce Wine and Mavado's High Unda. Eventually, he had people doing dance moves like 'Hoola Hoop', 'Tek Weh Yuhself','Dutty Wine' and 'Stookie'. An early 'daggering' segment was welcomed as he played songs like Busy Signa's Pon Di Edge and RDX's Bend Ova. In what he said was the 'uptown segmen', he played songs like Shop Boyz's Party Like A Rockstar and Sisqo's Thong Song. diversity Then at 1 a.m., ZJ Ice started with Beenie Man's Know Fi Wine and Anthony B's Tease Har. However, his set lacked diversity with more than one dozen Vybz Kartel songs being played in the first half of his set. Eventually, he changed pace and played hip hop songs like Rihanna and Kanye West's Turn Up The Lights, Nicki Minaj's Moment For Life and Tine Tempah's Pass Out. On a hip hop beat, he played I-Octane's Nuh Dream Bout Bwoy and followed up with Chan Dizzy's hard-hitting Nuh Strange Face. Kingston All-stars, with DJ Rickochey on the turntables, went completely high energy from the start of their set. Immediately, he played songs that the female patrons favoured like Rihanna's S&M, Taio Cruz's Dynamite and Far East Movement's Like A G6. The sound system also entertained patrons with songs like Konshens' Realest Song, Tifa's Move Yuh Body and Mavado's Stulla. Supa Hype followed and started with Sizzla's Give Me A Try and Mavado's I Know You Want Me. But by then, some of the patrons were starting to leave the event.
