BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC): West Indies captain Darren Sammy said Monday's win in the fourth one-day international against Pakistan had given his side a much-needed lift for the final match of the series in Guyana today. "We needed that (win). The guys will take the positives from this game, the way Lendl Simmons played, Sars (Ramnaresh Sarwan) in the middle, young (Dwayne) Bravo under pressure hitting that six and also the way young (Devendra) Bishoo has been bowling for us," he said. "Ravi is in form and sooner or later Roachie (Kemar Roach) will come to the party and we take confidence from that going to Guyana." West Indies entered the game on the heels of three straight defeats after losing the double-header in St Lucia last month and the first match of another double-header at Kensington Oval last Thursday. They limited Pakistan to 248 for nine after winning the toss and bowling and then chased down a revised target of 154 after the weather intervened, winning by one run under the Duckworth-Lewis method. pulling through "It's been a while but we created an opportunity and it was good to see the guys pulling it through in the end," Sammy said. "Throughout the series, we haven't had an opportunity to bowl first and (it) showed that we were quite happy doing that. It showed in the way Ravi (Rampaul) started for us although he didn't get any wickets, he bowled quite well. "Coming down towards the end (of the innings) we took innings and kept them (quiet)." He also praised opener Lendl Simmons who smashed 76 from 70 balls to record his third successive half-century. "He had been very consistent but the only thing is that I know he would like to carry on and bring the team home when he gets these starts," Sammy noted. "He's fresh back into the team and doing very well for us and we would like him to continue." |
