Former Sunshine Girls captain Simone Forbes has filed an appeal to the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) against a three-month ban from the sport. The 28-year-old Forbes received the suspension last Friday, after JADCO's disciplinary committee chaired by Kent Gammon found her guilty of a doping violation last month. Forbes returned an adverse analytical finding following an out-of-competition test last month. She tested positive for clomiphene, a drug listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2011 list of banned substances under Section 4 - 'Hormone Antagonists and Modulators'. set to appeal Clomiphene, also known by its chemical name, clomid, is a common selective receptor modulator that is used quite frequently by steroid users. Doctor Aggrey Irons, who represented Forbes during the two-day hearing, which was held at the Institute of Jamaica on East Street in downtown Kingston, confirmed the fact that Forbes is set to appeal toStar Sports yesterday. "She has done it and it is her right to do so," said Irons. However, Irons added that he was not able to say when the hearing will take place and who will be representing Forbes on this occasion. The other members of Gammon's panel were Olympian Juliet Cuthbert and Dr Peter Charles. During Forbes' hearing, Professor Joseph Frederick, who specialises in reproductive medicine at the University Hospital of the West Indies, said the positive finding was as a result of treatment that he administered to Forbes following a pelvic surgery. Frederick told the commission he was unaware the drug was on WADA's list of banned substances. Forbes, a versatile player, is hoping for her suspension to be overturned allowing her to participate in this year's World Netball Championships (WNC), which will be in Singapore from July 3-10. Forbes, who last represented Jamaica in a three-Test series against Trinidad and Tobago in March, is aiming to compete in her third consecutive WNC.
